What classes to diamonds come in? And what are SI diamonds? Well, I can tell you that from the naked eye, it is very nearly impossible to tell the difference between many different classes of diamond clarity, so perhaps an SI diamond might be the best way for you to go!
What are SI diamonds?
An SI diamond is an abbreviation of Slightly Included (SI). This means that the gem has a few inclusions that are visible under 10x magnification, but definitely not to the naked eye ā and even better still, once the SI diamond is placed in a ring, good luck to anyone trying to find anything remotely wrong with your diamond. Donāt worry, inclusions donāt mean that your stone is more prone to cracking ā itās fine!
What is an inclusion in a diamond?
An inclusion is basically tiny lines or dots in a diamond ā really minor imperfections. Sometimes this can be the result of the natural diamond being exposed to extreme heat and pressure when it was forming many, many millions of years ago. So donāt worry, this is all-natural and likely to occur in many diamonds.
Sometimes inclusions can arise because the stone has been manipulated, or may be created in a lab, however, this generally applies to other gemstones, such as sapphires and rubies, where it is really easy to see cracks or bubbles as a result of heat treatment, or lab creation.
Are SI diamonds real?
Yes ā absolutely SI diamonds are real. Not only are they real, but they are stunningly beautiful as well. They have inclusions that are only visible under 10x magnification and even then, trained jewelers will spend lots of time examining SI diamonds to try and find those inclusions.
Are SI or VS diamonds better?
In terms of the scale of clarity, VS-graded diamonds are better than SI diamonds. VS means very slightly included, which means that the imperfections are even harder to see under the microscope. There is not much of a difference between SI and VS, so if you are hard-pressed trying to figure out which to get, I would suggest the cheaper option ā SI.
Are SI diamonds cheap?
I donāt think any diamond is ācheapā. They are a beautiful gemstone that exudes the highest quality, sparkle, and shine to make any wearer feel confident that people are staring at their precious jewelry. Diamond is the hardest of all gemstones, and has one of the highest refractive indexes of approx. 2.42, meaning āfireā of any gemstone, and this is why they sparkle so much in the natural light.
How much are SI diamonds worth?
The value of an SI diamond will depend on other factors, such as carat size, color and cut. Obviously the bigger the SI diamond, the more you will pay. A 1-carat D-Colour round diamond will measure 6.5mm in width and will cost between $5,000 to $10,000 USD.
SI diamond clarity?
Is SI diamond clarity good? Yes ā a SI clarity diamond is really good even though it is on the lower end of the clarity scale. The SI clarity diamond will offer a more affordable option and be beautiful to the naked eye. You can see why SI clarity diamonds are so popular for engagement rings and other beautiful pieces of jewelry.
